Service Over Self will be the designated recipient of the annual Church of the Holy Trinity, Episcopal’s golf fundraiser, which is scheduled for Aug. 15 at the Vicksburg Country Club.
“Every year we select a local charity to benefit,” said the Rev. Beth Palmer, the rector of the church.
“Last year it was Jacob’s Ladder,” she said, and added that the golf tournament raised $5,000, which included monies from the entry fees, hole sponsorships, and door prizes.
The fundraiser will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the four-person scramble tees off at 1 p.m.
The cost to play is $80 or $320 for a four-man team and includes lunch, range balls, beverages and one mulligan. There is a 20-team limit.
A new golf cart will be given to anyone who might make a hole in one, said Palmer, and door prizes will be awarded throughout the tournament.
Businesses may also participate in the fundraiser by sponsoring a hole for the tournament. The cost is $100.
SOS is a service project, which provides local residents needed assistance for home repairs. — building materials are provided, along with sweat equity from youth and adult SOS volunteers.
SOS’s leadership estimates that an average of $12,000 to $15,000 is spent each year on the home repairs, said Palmer.
