Jessie Barrett

Jessie Barrett, the loving father of Joseph Thomas and Jason Timothy Barrett, and grandfather to Joshua, Jacob, Jessie, Jaden and Jackson, died July 30, 2014.

He was born in Vicksburg on Oct. 30, 1947.

He was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and Pattison.

Jessie was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison Dewitt Barrett and Mary Ellen McCluskey Barrett; and his brothers and sisters, Francis “Doc”, Paul, Lois, Charles, James, and Alvin.

He is survived by his sisters, Bertha Crist, Mary Stokes (Herbert), Retha Tanner, Dorothy “Dottie” Eagle and many nieces and nephews.

Jessie graduated from Jett High School in 1965 and joined the Carpenters Union Local #1964 after he graduated. Jessie was a lifelong member of the Union and served the local as President, trustee, and apprenticeship trainer.

Jessie was described as “a hard-working man, dedicated to the local. You could always count on him to be there for the men.”

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and Ole Miss Football.

Jessie was a good man who had a generous spirit, loved children, and always believed in an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.

A Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at the Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg, with a chapel service immediately following.  The Rev. George Owens will officiate.
