Bike riders of all skill levels can look forward to what has become an annual event for the Vicksburg Main Street Program.
The fifth annual Bricks and Spokes Bike Ride will once again take riders through the scenic bluffs and rolling hills of Vicksburg on Oct. 4.
The event features 10-, 30-, 50-, and 62-mile rides and will begin at the intersection of South and Walnut Streets.
“The route will go down Washington Street and travel to the Old Mississippi River Bridge and take you onto country roads where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery as the route includes flat areas of Louisiana and the great rolling hills of Vicksburg and Warren County,” said Kim Hopkins, the director of the Main Street Program.
Hopkins said the bike ride would have volunteers at the rest areas and support and gear vehicles along the ride route.
“Last year’s annual ride included almost 250 riders,” said Hopkins. “This year’s event is expected to exceed 300 plus individuals.”
Hopkins said the group is also seeking sponsors and volunteers for the ride.
“On top of participants, we are looking for sponsors and volunteers to make sure the event is a success. Volunteers can be individuals or companies,” she said, adding that the event can serve as a great team building exercise or volunteer project for companies.
“Companies are welcome to sponsor rest areas where riders will stop for snacks and beverages,” she said.
Children 14-years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult and all riders must wear helmets.
Registration fees are $30 through Aug. 15, $35 through Sept. 5 and $40 afterwards by calling 601-634-4527 or visiting bricksandspokes.com.
The first 200 to register will be guaranteed a t-shirt.
Packet pick-up will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Senior Center, 801 South St. and same day registration will also be available at the Senior Center the morning of the ride beginning at 7a.m. The race will start at 8 a.m.
Proceeds from the race will go the Vicksburg Main Street Program.

“From staying informed with local governmental issues to hearing the stories of its people, a hometown newspaper is vital to a community. I have felt privileged to be part of a dedicated team at The Post throughout my tenure and hope that with theirs and with local support, I will be able to continue to grow and hone in on my skills as I help share the stories in Vicksburg. When asked what I like most about my job, my answer is always ‘the people.’
