JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Mississippi Braves didn’t leave Jacksonville in first place, but they certainly took care of business on their trip there.

Cedric Hunter’s two-run triple in the top of the eighth inning provided the winning runs as the M-Braves beat Jacksonville 4-3 on Sunday.

Kyle Kubitza reached base three times and scored twice for the M-Braves, while Gustavo Nunez went 2-for-4 with a double.

Starting pitcher Mitch Atkins allowed seven hits, but only two runs — both unearned — in six innings. He walked two, struck out four, and wound up with a no-decision. Brandon Cunniff (3-0) pitched two innings of relief and got the win, while John Cornely worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the season.

The M-Braves (29-21) took four out of five in the series with the South Division leaders, and are a game out of first. Jacksonville (30-20) and Mobile (29-19) are tied for the division lead.

Mississippi will return home Tuesday to open a five-game series against Montgomery.
