Business leaders and civic club members will have two chances to meet 2014 Miss Mississippi Jasmine Murray in the next week.
Murray, who was crowned Miss Mississippi in the 2014 pageant last month, will be the featured speaker Wednesday at Lions and again Aug. 20 at the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon at the BB Club.
Jane Flowers, executive director of the chamber, said she is excited about this year’s luncheon.
“This year we’re hosting Miss Mississippi, and she’s going to sing and then give us her platform,” Flowers said.
Flowers said the luncheons are normally held at the Vicksburg Convention Center, however the facility had been reserved for another party. Story Ebersole is catering the luncheon because it was switched to the BB Club.
“This is a real exciting time because a lot of our members haven’t been to the BB Club, and there’s a stage there; and the acoustics, I understand, are good,” Flowers said. “It all works out.”
Flowers emphasized the luncheon is not limited to chamber members.
“We’re taking reservations now. All of our members get electronic invitations, but I think we’ll be putting it in the community calendar,” Flowers said.
She said the Miss Mississippi pageant is a fixture in Vicksburg — something widely appreciated throughout the community.
“We just welcome this Miss Mississippi pageant to Vicksburg every year and it really helps the economy of this community develop.”
Flowers said this luncheon is a great way to build community support and have people in the community get to know each other.
“We want to make sure that people feel welcome,” Flower said.
The chamber event will be $13 for members, and $15 for non-members. Guests at Lions Club must be accompanied by a member.
The chamber fees can be paid at the door and credit cards will be accepted. To register for the luncheon or to get more information, call -601-636-1012 or visit www.vicksburgchamber.org. If a reservation must be canceled, call the chamber before 3 p.m. Aug. 19.
