Eugene Chambers Sr.

Eugene “Baby Gene” Chambers of Clinton, formerly of Vicksburg, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at University of Mississippi Medical Center. He was 63.

He attended Port Gibson and Vicksburg Public Schools, and was a retired truck driver and heavy machine operator. He was ordained a minister 35 years ago at Mount Elem Baptist church of Pearl, and his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and making everyone laugh.

Rev. Chambers was a member of First Hyde Park M.B. Church in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura B. Chambers; father, Elijah Kemp; and brothers, Bill and Melvin Chambers.

Survivors include daughters, Natalie Chambers of Jackson, Vanessa Chambers Beale of Memphis, Tenn., and Shellon Wilson of Vicksburg; sons, Eugene Chambers Jr., Bradley Chambers and Daryl Chambers of Pearl; sisters, Martha Walker and Shirley Chambers of Vicksburg, and Jennie Chambers-Jones of Terry; brothers, John Chambers Sr. of Inglewood, Calif., and Freddie Chambers of Raymond; two granddaughters; one grandson; and other relatives and friends, including Charlie Miller of Port Gibson, the Armstrong family of Vicksburg, the Nash and Woods families of Port Gibson, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Zion Travelers M B Church, with his pastor, Dr. Terry Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, and Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the service.
