TALLULAH, La. — Funeral services for Mary Cheek DeMoss, age 91, of Tallulah, will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. Jim Reid officiating and assisted by Brother Eddy Shoemaker.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Mary Cheek DeMoss was born in the Nelson Bend community, rural Richland Parish, La., Oct. 25, 1922, and died at The Olive Branch Senior Care Facility in Tallulah, Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014.
Mary moved to Madison Parish over 55 years ago with her husband and family. She was a retired cosmetologist and former owner of Myrette’s Beauty Salon in Tallulah. After retirement, she worked as a hair stylist at The Olive Branch Nursing Home. As a member of First United Methodist Church of Tallulah, she and her husband, Billy, served as youth sponsors for the MYF during the early 1960s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Robert Cheek and Catherine Jane Thames Cheek; husband, William Major “Billy” DeMoss; son, William Major “Billy” DeMoss Jr.; brothers, Robert Edward, Oscar Lee, Horace H., Carey Joseph, Fred and Delma; sisters, Dallas Vertna Knight, Florence Edwina Joyner, Catherine Aline Hurley; and grandson, Woodrow William “Woody” Roper.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Jo Reeves (James) of Rayville, La., Myra Alyce Wyche (Gary) of Benton, La., Mary Beth Oglesby (Row) of The Woodlands, Texas, Lana Kaye Walters (Keith) of Natchez; daughter-in-law, Joyce Foy DeMoss Lapenas (Johnny) of Clinton, La.; grandchildren, James Edwin Reeves (Selena) of Forrest City, Ark., Michael Blair Reeves of Plano, Texas, Dena Kaye Owen (Jim) of Columbus Air Force Base, Miss., Edwin Ellis Lee (Katie) of Houston, Texas, Myra Lee Adkins (Kenneth) of Austin, Texas, Jaclyn Paige Jones (Trae) of Vidalia, La., Dr. Melissa Kaye Jennings of Estero, Fla., William Major “Billy” DeMoss III (Donna) of Clinton, La.; Joy Lapenas Gardner (Todd) of Clinton, La., Somer Lapenas Tweedy (Darrin) of Clinton, La., Chris Oglesby (Michele) of Houston, Texas, and Angie Benovi (Chris) of Flower Mound, Texas; 25 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Billy DeMoss, Edwin Reeves, Blair Reeves, Ed Lee, Jim Owen, Trae Jones and great-grandson, Storm Reeves.
