Florence Evelyn Barnes

Florence Evelyn Barnes died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. She was 98.

Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker and member of the Free Spring Baptist Church, were she was a mother of the church, former clerk of the church, and former president of the Missionary Society. She was a member of Liberty Chapter No. 462 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her parents Abraham and Bessie Boyd Dennis; her husband, Lawrence Barnes Sr.; son, Lawrence Barnes Jr.; daughters, Mary Parker and Hattie B. McMorris; brothers, Hugo Dennis, Bernard Dennis, John Dennis and R. Lee Dennis; sister, Eunice Robinson; and a grandson.

Survivors include her daughter, Bessie Otis of Vicksburg; brother, Wallace Dennis of Detroit; sisters, Letha Ann Smith of Natchez, and Lovie Morris of Philadelphia; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, cousins and others relatives and friends.

Services will be noon Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Free Spring Baptist Church in Doloroso, with the Rev. George Norflin officiating. Burial will follow at Free Spring Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, and Friday in Natchez from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Hwy 61 N. Church of God in Christ.
