The smoldering remnant of an 18-wheeler is positioned sideways on a hillside off the shoulder of Interstate 20 about 3 miles past Bovina Thursday morning after the vehicle struck a parked box truck on the side of the road. John Reneham, 65, of Crossville, Ala., was driving an Averitt Express truck east on I-20 when he drifted right, striking a parked Citywide Express box truck parked on the shoulder. One occupant, James Cesda, 54, was in the truck that was struck. Reneham and Cesda were both airlifted to UMMC. No citations were issued at the time of the accident, said trooper Eric Henry, and the investigation is still underway. Traffic resumed its normal flow at about 2:30 p.m. Reneham was in fair condition this morning and Cesda was in good condition, according to a UMMC spokesperson.
