James Sanders finished 12th overall in a field of more than 100 runners Saturday to lead Vicksburg High to a seventh-place team finish at the Mississippi College High School Meet in Clinton.

Sanders completed the 5K run in 19 minutes, 34.5 seconds and was the Gators’ top finisher. Otis Johnson was next for Vicksburg in 29th place, with a time of 20:50.98.

Will Young of Austin Regents won the meet in 16:17.08. Pontotoc High School had three of the top six runners and easily won the boys meet over Brandon, 32-71.

In the girls’ meet, Vicksburg finished 10th in the team standings. Leiana Thornell was the team’s top runner, finishing in 38th place with a time of 20:34.99.

Choctaw Central edged Pontotoc 42-43 for the girls’ team title.
