Olive Elise Barrier Grice

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Olive Elise Barrier Grice of Memphis and former long-time resident ofVicksburg died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. She was 90.
Born in Jackson on July 16, 1924, Elise was the daughter of the late Lenard Paul Barrier and Alyce Brown Barrier Stafford of Rolling Fork. She was a graduate of Rolling Fork High School and attended Southern Methodist University. She was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District.
While in Vicksburg, she was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons, John Paul Grice Jr. (Clare) of Houston, Texas; Lenard A. Grice (Nina) of Germantown, Tenn., and Philip Christy Grice Sr. (Gay) of The Woodlands, Texas; three grandchildren, Philip Christy Grice Jr. and Amanda G. Ryan (Adam) of Houston, and Amanda Susan Grice of Memphis; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Tyler Grice, and Grace Ryan, all of Houston.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul Grice Sr.; stepfather, Dr. Benjamin Alvis Stafford; a brother, Lenard Blaine Barrier; and a grandson, Lenard A. Grice Jr.
Memorial services will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church at 11 am on Saturday, Sept. 6. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services with a reception to follow services in the Great Hall.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Mary Galloway Home, Memphis; Calvary Episcopal Church, Memphis; or Crawford Street UMC.
