Curley makes hole-in-one

Father P.J. Curley made a hole-in-one at Clear Creek Golf Course on Aug. 26. He aced the fourth hole, a 147-yard par-3, with a 7-iron. His witness was Lito Meer.

Clear Creek Ladies golf report

On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association hosted its September retirees scramble. The team of Sherron Engdahl, Keith Gordon, Dan Marble and Rodney McHann won the tournament, while Emily Bonelli, Donnie Frith, Richard Rogers and Don Watt placed second. Third place went to the team of Joyce Johnson, Brad Heisler, Dave Williams and David Wright.

Linda McHann and Brad Heisler hit the longest drives. Closest to the pin awards went to Joyce Johnson, Del Cox and Heisler. Chip-ins were made by Sherron Engdahl, Cox, Doug Dick, Larry Cook, Eddie Fowler, Richard Rogers, Donnie Frith, Sam Wong, Jerry Harmon, Keith Gordon and Lloyd Clark.

Vicksburg High golf tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s varsity golf team will be held Monday and Tuesday at Clear Creek Golf Course in Bovina, at 5 p.m. each day. The tryouts are open to all students in grades 7-12. Players should have a current physical and must bring their own clubs.

St. Al tennis tryouts

Tryouts for St. Aloysius’ varsity tennis team will be held today and Monday, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. Players should bring their own racquet. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

YMCA football registration open

The Vicksburg YMCA is now accepting registration for its youth football and cheerleading programs.

The youth football program will have two divisions, for players in grades 3-4 and another in grades 5-6, and the season begins Sept. 16. Games will be played at the Purks and VerBeck YMCA branches.

Parks and Rec fall baseball

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s fall baseball season will continue until Friday. The registration fee is $25, and the league is for players ages 5-15. Coaches are also needed.

Parks and Rec adult softball

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s co-ed softball league will continue until Friday. The league is for both men and women, and the registration fee is $175 per team. There is an extra fee of $10 for each Warren County resident and $20 for residents of Claiborne, Sharkey and Issaquena counties. AJGT Copper Mill Classic tournament

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the Copper Mill Junior Classic Sept. 27-28 at Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, La. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is for players ages 11-18. The entry fee is $195, and the registration deadline is Wednesday. To register, visit arrowheadjgt.com.
