Porters Chapel Academy had a highly successful regular season.
The postseason was a different matter.
The Lady Eagles were swept out of the MAIS Class A South State tournament on Saturday, losing 8-1 to Sylva-Bay and 3-1 to Union Christian.
PCA, which won the District 5-A championship, fell behind 6-1 after two innings against Sylva-Bay, and never let itself get back in the game.
The Lady Eagles outhit Sylva-Bay, but left eight runners on base. Their only run came on Karley Hinson’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning.
Bailey Gilbert went 2-for-3 for Sylva-Bay.
The loss to Sylva-Bay dropped PCA (10-12) into the losers’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament, and into an elimination game with Union Christian. It didn’t go any better.
PCA took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Hinson doubled and courtesy runner Rhegan Smith came around on a pair of wild pitches. Union Christian answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning, however, and held on for the 3-1 win that ended PCA’s season.
Hinson finished 2-for-4 against Union Christian, and Anna Beth Miller had three hits on the day for PCA.
