Walter “W.L.” Thompson

PORT GIBSON — Walter “W.L.” Thompson died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Claiborne County Medical Center. He was 83.
Mr. Thompson was a member and deacon at Ashland M.B. Church. He worked for LeTourneau Inc. for a number of years, and with the City of Port Gibson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter L. and Gracie Sawyer-Thompson; his wife, Annie “Nina” Thompson; a son, Billy R. Thompson; a daughter, Ruth McNeil; and a brother, Ben Simmons.
Survivors include three sons, Freddie Davis, Charles Trevillion and Owen (Yvonne) Thompson, all of Boston; five daughters, Gustina Jackson, Claudine Leatherberry, Presandra Thompson-Butler, and Norma Thompson-Lewis, all of Port Gibson, and Tonnie Miller of Boston; a brother, Jimmy Thompson of Minneapolis; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be noon, Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at Ashland M.B. Church in Port Gibson, with the Rev. Richard Cruel officiating and the Rev. Otis Davis delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Springhill Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.
Visitation is today from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and Friday at the church from 11 a.m. until the service.
