Ida “Retta” Fields Bass

Ida “Retta” Fields Bass died Sept. 24, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. She was 73.

Mrs. Bass was born Jan. 26, 1941, to the late Willie and Maggie Fields.

She received her formal education in the Vicksburg Public School System. Mrs. Bass was a member of the King Jubilee Singing Group, one of the founders of the Dynamic 3 Singing Sensation, and a member of the Ebenezer Church choir.

Besides her parents, Willie and Maggie Fields, she was preceded in death by son, David Fields; grandparents, Johnny and Emma Jackson; brother, Robert Fields; two sisters, Dorothy Fields and Gloria Fields; nephews, Craig Williams, Theodore Fields and Michael Fields.

Survivors include her loving husband, George Bass of Vicksburg; daughter, Carla Fields Bass of Vicksburg; two sons, Ernest Fields of Champaign, Ill., and Armond Bass of Cordova, Tenn.; four sisters, Virginia Fields of Los Angeles; Joyce Yates of Southaven, Ruby Wilson and Edna Washington, both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Grove Street Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Michael R. Reed Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home.

Visitation is 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
