Warren Central smashes rival Missy Gators

Warren Central played its last regular-season game of the year across town at Vicksburg High’s “Softball Swamp,” but made itself right at home.

Katie Channell belted a two-run home run, Morgan Stewart and Anaiyah Fultz drove in three runs apiece, and the Lady Vikes hammered Vicksburg 14-1 on Thursday.

Lawren Boolos went 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored, and was one of six Lady Vikes with two hits apiece. Fultz, Channell, Stewart, Brooke Patterson and Sarah Kate Smith all had two hits.

Fultz was 2-for-3 with a triple. Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and also scored four runs.

Warren Central jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back. It added four more runs in the third inning, two in the fifth and four in the sixth to complete the rout.

Vicksburg’s only run came in the fourth inning, when Kori Screws singled and scored on a hit by Shelby Muirhead.

Warren Central, which will host a playoff game in two weeks, will finish the regular season with road games at Ridgeland and Madison Central next week.

Vicksburg (5-11, 0-6 Division 3-5A/6A) will play its season finale Tuesday night at 6:15 at home against Pearl.
