LORMAN — Allen Jones Jr. died Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Promise Hospital. He was 73.

He was a member and deacon at Morningstar M.B. Church.  He retired from Alcorn State University after 33 years of service, and was the owner and CEO of Jones Logging until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Jones Sr. and Eva B. Jones; his wife, Dorothy J. Jones; and two brothers, Jean Hall and David Jones.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Smith and Pamela Jones Davis, both of Port Gibson; three grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; four brothers, Nathaniel Jones Sr. and Ronnie Jones, both of Port Gibson, Walter Jones of Atlanta and Robert Coleman of Hattiesburg; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Mt. Olive M.B. Church in the Westside Community with the Rev. Elijah Brown officiating and the Rev. Otis Davis delivering the eulogy. Burial will be at Carbondale Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation is today from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home, and Thursday at the church from noon until the service.
