James Ernest ‘Red’ Purvis

James Ernest “Red” Purvis died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Promise Hospital. He was 83.
Born and reared in the Gallman area, he lived most of his life in Warren County, where he was formerly employed by the Warren County Road Department and Saxton’s Garage as a mechanic.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War, a member of Shiloh Hunting Club and a member of Wayside Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Lee Purvis, in 1993; his son, Rusty; and brothers, Odell Purvis and Robert Purvis.
Survivors include his four sons, Larry (Bea) Purvis of Port Gibson, and Raiford Purvis, Michael (Angie) Purvis and Norman (Marsha) Purvis all of Vicksburg; three brothers, Doyle Purvis of Vicksburg, Calvin Purvis of Oregon and Elton Purvis of South Carolina; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. today, Oct. 9, 2014, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery.
Visitation will be from noon until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Landers, Eddie Hayes, Roy Blissit, Mark Emerle, Roger Jackson and Johnny Dill.
