John Allen Brent Sr. died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.

Born on July 18, 1934, to Albert J. Brent and Martha Ellison Brent, he lived all his life in Vicksburg, where he was employed as a mechanic for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  He retired after 32 years of employment.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Willie Brent; a brother, Claude Brent; and wife, Betty Jean Brent.

Survivors include his son, John Allen Brent Jr. of Vicksburg; daughter, Martha Nevels of Vicksburg; a brother, Lucky Brent of Minden, La.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Boehm officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Alex Nevels, Johnny Nevels Jr., Jeffy  Cochren, Randy Brent, Greg Hasty, and Glen Nevels.
