Clear Creek Ladies golf report

On Wednesday the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association played its club championship tournament. Laura Lee won the overall championship, as well as having the low net score, lowest number of putts and closest to the pin award for her flight. Debra Robinson took second place in the championship flight.

The first flight winner was Emily Bonelli, who also had the flight’s lowest net score and number of putts. Dinah Lazor placed second and took the flight’s closest to the pin award. Connie Kegerreis won the second flight, followed by Charlotte Crist in second place. Kegerreis also won low net score, lowest number of putts and closest to the pin award for her flight. Bonelli hit the most accurate drive of the tournament.

The Alcorn State University Alumni Foundation and Alcorn State University Foundation will host its Sixth Annual Benefit Golf Tournament on Friday at Clear Creek Golf Course. The two-player scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. There will be prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive, plus a $1,000 hole-in-one prize.

The entry fee is $90 per person or $100 the day of the event, and includes cart, lunch and beverages. Hole sponsorships are available for $100 and corporate sponsorships are also available. All entry fees should be mailed to Alcorn State University Alumni Foundation, 107 Colonial Drive, Vicksburg MS 39180.

MSU drop-down pitching camp

Mississippi State will host its drop-down pitching camp Dec. 13 in Starkville. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is designed to provide intensive instruction on all aspects of drop-down pitching for players in high school and junior college. The instructors will be MSU pitching coach Butch Thompson and former major leaguers Chad Bradford and Scott Sullivan.

The cost of the one-day camp is $200. Players can sign up at hailstate.com/camps, and registration will begin at 8 a.m. the day of the camp.

NFL referee Triplette to speak in Jackson

Veteran NFL official Jeff Triplette will be the guest speaker at the Jackson Touchdown Club’s monthly meeting on Monday night. Triplette, an Oxford resident, has been an NFL referee for 19 seasons and is president of the NFL Referees Association.

Monster Mash softball at Hinds

Hinds Community College will host the third annual “Monster Mash at Moss” on Oct. 30. The co-ed softball game pitting Hinds’ baseball and softball teams is a fundraiser to benefit Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. The teams will compete wearing Halloween costumes.

The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $2 with a Hinds ID and $5 for the general public. Children under 12 get in free.
