Anita Chloe Mathes Chandler

UTICA — Anita Chloe Mathes Chandler died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg. She was 76.
Mrs. Chandler was born on Sept. 18, 1938, in Albany, Ga. She grew up in Ponchatoula, La., and was a resident of Utica for over 60 years. She was a member of Utica Christian Church.
Early in her adult life, Mrs. Chandler worked as a school bus driver and cafeteria worker at Rebul Academy and Utica High School so she could work where her children went to school. Later in life, she was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier until she retired.
Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her late husband, Sidney Mathes Sr.; daughter, Carol Ann Mathes; father, John Wesley Tanner; mother, Edna Brumfield Tanner; and four brothers, Thomas Tanner, Steve Tanner, Wendal Tanner, and John Tanner.
She is survived by her husband, Jim Chandler of Utica; two sisters, Julia Tanner Beyle of Covington, La. and Nette Tanner Allums of Denham Springs, La.; brother, Richard Tanner of Covington, La.; four sons, Sidney Mathes Jr., Ernest Mathes Sr., and Wayne Mathes, all of Utica, and Dennis Mathes of Cabot, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica from 5 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Utica Christian Church with burial to follow at the Utica cemetery.
