Three local doctors elected to leadership with state association

Three Vicksburg physicians are on a newly-minted list of leadership positions with the Mississippi State Medical Association.
Dr. Daniel P. Edney, an internist, was named president-elect of the MSMA at the organization’s 146th annual meeting in August. Edney is affiliated with River Region Medical Center, Medical Associates of Vicksburg and Central Mississippi Medical Center.
Drs. Geri Weiland and Joseph Austin, also of Vicksburg, were named speaker of the house and District 7 trustee, respectively.
New MSMA president Claude D. Brunson is the first African-American to lead the association. Brunson is a senior advisor to the vice chancellor for external affairs and professor anesthesiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Jordan Ingram, of Vicksburg, was named a student trustee for the organization, made up of 5,000 physicians and medical students.
