Inez G. Carter

Inez G. Carter of Vicksburg died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at River Region Medical Center. She was 56.

Inez G. Carter, a Fayette native, was ordained to preach the Gospel at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Natchez and ministered to others at the church.

Inez was preceded in death by her mother, Josie Mae Harris, her fathers, George Green and James McBride, one son, Robert Louis Smothers III; one sister, Etta McBride Hudson; and five brothers, Joe Terry Green, Louis McBride, Richard McBride, Robert McBride, and Willie McBride.

Survivors include her husband of 23 years, Joseph Carter; three daughters, LaKiesha  Smothers-Evans and Wanda Butler, both of Vicksburg, and LaTonya Smothers-Bell, of Natchez; five sons, Dominique Smothers, Calvin Smothers, Steven Carter, and Joseph Arnold Carter, all of Vicksburg, and Robert Smothers Jr. of Muskogee, Okla.; four sisters, Ruby Ann Green, Georgain Henderson , Linda Ann Devote and Burnella Tyler, all of Vicksburg; five brothers, Connie Gibson, Alfred McBride, Williard Troy McBride, all of Vicksburg, Percy Harris Jr., of Pattison, and James Taylor of Los Angeles; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives and friends including Mary Nelson, Lugenia and Sam Scott and Easter Earls.

Visitation will be Friday, October 31, 2014 from 2-7 p.m. at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home, 2102 Clay Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 at Pleasant Valley M.B. Church, 260 Mississippi 27, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. There will be a repast at Cedar Grove Mansion Chapel, 2200 Oak Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180.
