Child hit by car in funeral procession

A toddler was injured after running out in front of a truck in a funeral procession Thursday on Fayette Street.

At about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 2-year-old ran into traffic in the 1300 block of Fayette Street as a funeral procession was heading to New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church at North Poplar and Jefferson streets, Vicksburg traffic investigator Leonce Young said.

A Ford F-150 hit the child at low speed, Young said.

The 2-year-old was taken to River Region Medical Center where he was treated and released.
