Man held in pot bust after Crime Stoppers tip

A Crime Stoppers tip about drug activity led to the arrest of a Vicksburg man this morning.

Kory Grayer, 23, 1408 Oakland St., Apt. A, was arrested at about 7:20 a.m. today and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Grayer was arrested as the result of an undercover narcotics operation that began from a Crime Stoppers tip from someone concerned about drug sales in the neighborhood, Williams said.

Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers, 601-355-8477, will pay a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.

 

Child hit by car in funeral procession

A toddler was injured after running out in front of a truck in a funeral procession Thursday on Fayette Street.

At about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, a 2-year-old ran into traffic in the 1300 block of Fayette Street as a funeral procession was heading to New Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church at North Poplar and Jefferson streets, Vicksburg traffic investigator Leonce Young said.

A Ford F-150 hit the child at low speed, Young said.

The 2-year-old was taken to River Region Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Two convicted of DUI 

Two convictions of driving under the influence were reported in Vicksburg and Warren County for the week ending Tuesday

In Vicksburg Municipal Court:

• Andy Lee Johnson, 52, 508 Speed St., was convicted of DUI first offense and fined, $814.

• Matthew George O’Neal, 37, 2160 S. Frontage Road, Apt. 2A, was convicted of DUI first offense and fined $814.

No convictions were reported in Warren County Justice Court.
