Junior Lady Vikes second at state meet

Hannah Huntley finished second overall, and the Warren Central Junior High girls cross country team was second in the team standings Saturday at the Mid South Middle School Cross Country Championships at Choctaw Trails in Clinton.

Huntley, an eighth-grader, clocked a time of 13 minutes, 52.41 seconds to finish second to Northwest Rankin’s Autumn Dehuff.

WC’s Macy Broome finished fifth and Emmanuelle Rocha was 13th to help the Junior Lady Vikes total 63 points. Northwest Rankin won the meet with 55 points, and Pearl Junior High was third with 70.

A total of 72 runners and eight teams competed.

YMCA basketball registration

Registration is now open for the YMCA’s youth basketball league. The league is for children in grades 3-8, and games begin Dec. 6 at the Purks YMCA. The registration fee is $40 for YMCA members and $80 for non-members, and the deadline is Nov. 7.

Clear Creek Ladies golf report

On Wednesday, the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association played a round of individual stroke play. Linda McHann took first place and logged the lowest number of putts. Emily Bonelli and Charlotte Crist finished second and third, respectively.

Beverly O’Neal tennis mixer

The Beverly O’Neal Memorial Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Halls Ferry Park courts. The event is a recreational all-ages mixer, and is open to players of all skill levels. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

MSU drop-down pitching camp

Mississippi State will host its drop-down pitching camp Dec. 13 in Starkville. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is designed to provide intensive instruction on all aspects of drop-down pitching for players in high school and junior college. The instructors will be MSU pitching coach Butch Thompson and former major leaguers Chad Bradford and Scott Sullivan.

The cost of the one-day camp is $200. Players can sign up at hailstate.com/camps, and registration will begin at 8 a.m. the day of the camp.

Southern Miss baseball camps

Southern Miss will host its Fall Showcase baseball camp on Nov. 22 at Pete Taylor Park in Hattiesburg. The camp is designed to allow current high school and junior college players a chance to showcase their abilities and receive instruction from current Southern Miss coaches, junior college coaches, and other schools.

Registration starts at 11 a.m., and the camp at noon. The registration fee is $155 per camper.

Arrowhead Golf junior tournaments

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour will host the All Southern Livery Oak Harbor Fall Classic at Oak Harbor Golf Club in Slidell, La., on Nov. 15 and 16.The entry fee for the 36-hole tournament is $195, and the entry deadline is Nov. 12. The tournament is for players ages 18 and under.
