Bovina Elementary School
• Our Giant Pledge leaders last week were Rylee Smith, Kathryn Wong, Mary Makenna Wooten, Jondarius Ward, Katelyn Bassett and Nichole Andreatta.  Our class leaders of the week last week were Anthony Cook, Tramarianna Garrett, Jake Bryant, Slade Lyons, Eli Shiers, Ja’Darrius Williams, Jadon Hughes, Ethan Channel, Layla Brewer, Davis Greene, Gabby McLeod, Yasmine Nekkab, Gracie Watford and  Devan Fischer.
• Sheriff Martin Pace came and talked to our kindergarten, first and second graders about Halloween safety while carving a pumpkin for them.  He talked to our third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders about safety and saying no to drugs.
• Shellie Wishard, regional director with Operation Christmas Child, came to talk to our students about our November service project.  Yuri Lopez shared her story of receiving a special box through Operation Christmas Child when she lived in Honduras.
• Our third, fourth, and fifth grade Bovina GATES students prepared handmade items and donations for a silent aution where all proceeds went to the Mississippi Association for Gifted Children Scholarship.  As part of a Money and Banking 101 unit, Bovina Elementary fourth grade GATES students participated in a presentation on credit by B.J. Rushing and Paula Smith of BancorpSouth.  Bovina’s second through sixth grade GATES students donated $610.00 to Blair E. Batson Children’s Cancer Clinic as a 2014 community service project.

Dana Road Elementary School
• The GATES students in Lana Fuller’s class who met their A.R. goal for 1st 9 weeks are Tirosky Hill, Alishy’Erika Weddington, Jaylah Woodson, Hunter Huffty, M’Kyla Stewart, Jacie Stewart, Mia Portillo, Lauren Cooley, Saniyya Brown, Cierra Nettle, Kyra McCullum, and Zachary Varnum.
• Susie Calvert was a guest reader in the kindergarten class of Tiffany Brantley and Crystal White.  She donated a book to the class library and bookmarks for the students.
• There will be a PTO meeting on Thursday, November 6th at 6:00 p.m.  Kindergarten classes will present a Thanksgiving program.  There will be a brief overview of the Science Fair and all those in attendance will receive a science fair backboard.
• Students will be learning habit four for  November – “Think Win-Win”.
• Showcase of Schools will be held November 8th at Pemberton Square Mall from 10-2.  Our students will be performing at 10:45.

Jacob’s Ladder
• On Thursday, Jacob’s Ladder traveled to Wild Country Safari Park in Louisiana. We had an exciting time on the guided tour feeding all the animals. Some of our favorite animals were the Macaw and Cockatoo, the camels, and the giraffe. Thank you to Mrs. Anita, Mrs. Sandra, and Mrs. Cheryl for coming with us.
• On Friday we attended Carnival on the Quad put on by Mississippi College. We had a great time participating in carnival games and dunking the student athlete/volunteers at the dunking booth. Thank you to Rob Ward of MC for inviting us. Also thank you to Mrs. Anita, Mrs. Sandra, and Mrs. Patty for coming with us.
• We received a special delivery on Tuesday. Cowboy Maloney’s delivered a new refrigerator, washer, dryer, and deep freezer to the school. We are thrilled to be on the receiving end of such generosity; thank you to Neal Hamilton of Cowboy Maloney’s and to Ed Herring for reaching out to help us meet a need.

Porters Chapel Academy
• Eager Eagle of the week in the first grade class of Rebecca Pace was Emmy Mauldin.  Student of the month was Peyton Machen.  He received a treat bag and certificate.  Students completing incentives are rewarded with prizes from the classroom treasure box.  Students are classifying mammals.  The students are creating booklets on fire safety and Halloween safety.
• The first of October, the second grade class took a field trip to the Tallulah Airport.  Our class of second graders had been reading a story “Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly a Plane” and studying planes.  We had a sack lunch and a fun day at the airport.  A big “Thanks” goes out to Ray Wright and James Rone for the tour and pictures.
• The second, third and fourth grades took a field trip to Crystal Springs for the Garden Fest for Youth.  It was an educational and fun trip.  We all enjoyed being outside on the beautiful day that God had created.

Redwood Elementary School
• Morning announcement leaders for the week were:  Pernell DeFrance, Daniel Smith, Peyton McBroom, Likeyshia Ritcherson and Alexis Williams.  Leaders of afternoon announcements were Kennedi Walton and Zachary Hearn.
• Volunteers Lorraine Copeland and Judy Williams are working with small groups of third graders to increase reading fluency and comprehension.
• Mrs. Audrey Tyrone’s second grade class is the Shining Star this week in Accelerated Reader points.  Her class has a total of 460  points so far this school year.
• Students of Ashley Coomes and Misty Hossley recreated the ancient city of Ur during a unit on ancient civilizations.
• Kansas City Southern Railroad engineer, Mr. Bernard Powell, spoke to kindergarten through 6th graders about train safety rules, signs, and symbols that are used on the railway.
• Red Ribbon Week concluded Friday with a “Say Boo to Drugs” Halloween costume parade for Kindergarten students.
• Faculty members were trained in Stephen Covey’s Seven Habits of Highly Effective People last week with Franklin Covey representative, Michael Armstrong.  The faculty and staff of Redwood extends our heartfelt gratitude to Paula Johnson and the Central Office staff for coordinating wonderful employees from our district to cover classes during our training.  We thank each of them for taking such good care of our students.  We are excited about what the Leader in Me program will bring out in our students.  Thank you!
• Redwood’s 40th Turkey Shoot was yesterday, Nov. 1.  Thank you to our PTO coordinator, Angie O’Brien and all the volunteers, parents, teachers, community leaders, business partners, and students for making the day one of our best!!
• Saturday, Nov. 8th at 10:30, Redwood Honor Choir will sing at the Mall Showcase of schools.  Come and see all of the school’s displays from 10-2 at Pemberton Mall.

Sherman Avenue Elementary School
• On Monday, Nov. 3 all 1st grade – 3rd grade students will attend a concert by the MS Symphony Orchestra at The Vicksburg Convention Center. Please make sure your permission slip is turned in to your child’s teacher.
• This past week Sherman Avenue celebrated “Red Ribbon Week.” Each day students dressed up in different costumes and the week ended with a “Storybook Character Parade.”
• On Nov. 10, select classes will present “It’s A Jungle Out There” at 1:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. Students will sing, dance, and present an art gallery.
• On Saturday, Nov. 8 all kindergarten students will sing at The Pemberton Mall for the Showcase of Schools. We will sing at 12 Noon and students’ artwork will also be on display.

South Park Elementary School
• Next week Kindergarten will be studying, reading, and writing about Pandas and how they change during their first year of life. Our letters/sounds for the week are n and b. We will be reading and creating short i and short a words. We will also listen to a text passage and find key detail and answer questions about the text. We will review main idea and compare and contrast. We will also be recognizing and finding verbs in sentences. We are counting to 100 by 1,5, and 10, adding to 10, recognizing and using numbers to 0-10, and comparing numbers.
• Third graders have been using hands-on manipulatives to divide, thanks to assistance from Phillip Rowe and Foam Packaging of Vicksburg.
• The 4th graders at South Park have been studying about dolphins this
week.  The title of their story for the week was Encantado: Pink Dolphin
of the Amazon.  The students have really enjoyed learning all of
the interesting facts about dolphins.  In Math, the students have been
solving multi-step problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication,
and division.  They have been doing an excellent job and working really
hard.  Way to go 4th Graders at South Park!

St. Francis Xavier
• Preschool, Montessori, and Kindergarten classes dressed up in their Halloween costumes and had a Halloween parade for elementary and high school students.
• Kindergarten visited the Curry Farms Pumpkin Patch on Tuesday, October 28th.
• The 2nd graders celebrated All Saints Day on Friday, October 31st by dressing up and reporting on the saint of their choice.
• The 3rd and 4th graders performed their music program “It’s Fall Y’all” on Thursday, October 30th for students, family, and friends.
• 5th grade celebrated Mass on Thursday, October 30th.
• Virginia Campbell (2nd grade teacher), Ashley Smith (3rd grade teacher), Kristy Ehrgott (5th grade teacher), and Tiffany Keen (6th grade teacher) will attend Art Integration workshops throughout the fall.

Vicksburg High School

Warren Central Junior High School
• Warren Junior Boys club is sponsoring a canned food drive to benefit the local food pantry.  Students may turn in canned god to their homeroom teacher.  The homeroom that collects the most canned goods will receive a pizza and wings party from Pizza Hut.
• Red ribbon week was celebrated this week with various activities.
• Students of the month for August were:  Zoe Santucci, Devin Montgomery, Jaden Braswell, Heaven Lee Devine, Jim Battle, Victoria McAdams, George Brown, and Jennifer Darby.
• Students of the month for September were:  Jaanesha Bailey, Jamie Davis, Tyree Younger, Cassidy Lampkin, Kameron Parker, JT Hill, Jamiah Hyche, Kevius McDaniel, Preston Hall, and Michaela Dorsey.
• Attendance is the focus for October and November.  Any student with perfect attendance for October and November that has maintained a C average will have the option of being exempt from their semester exam in December.

Warrenton Elementary School
