Barton George “Bart” Schreiner

Barton George “Bart” Schreiner died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 77.

Born in Joplin, Mo., he was the son of the late Benjamin George Schreiner and Nevah Parkins Schreiner.

He was a graduate of Carr Central High School, attended Hinds Junior College, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University.

He was a civil engineer with the Waterways Experiment Station, retiring in 1989, and was licensed as a professional engineer with the State of Mississippi.

He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Hinds Junior College Alumni Association, where he was inducted into the football hall of fame. He was a member of the Mississippi State Alumni Association, Ducks Unlimited, and served 25 years as a YMCA league PREP football coach. He was an avid sportsman with devotion for the outdoors and had a love for duck hunting with his family and friends. His passion was for football.

He was a beloved son, a loving husband for 52 years, a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was an active member of Highland Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Kay Musil Schreiner; three daughters, Nevah N. Rodgers (Billy), Tara Kay Holloway (Hugh) and Shannon Schreiner; one son, Barton M. Schreiner (Amber); nine grandchildren, Brandy Sanberg, Billy Rodgers, Doug Holloway, Greg Holloway, Brian Holloway, Elizabeth Holloway, Ava Schreiner, Thomas Waller and Sela Waller; five great-grandchildren Sadie Sanberg, Cade Sanberg, Hannah Holloway, Kaden Holloway, Ryan Holloway.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Christopher George Schreiner.

Services will be Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Highland Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. with visitation at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of service. Interment will be private.

Memorials will be to the Hinds Community College Football Scholarships, Post Office Box 1100, Raymond, MS 39154  and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
