•First Grade classes filled 30 boxes for Operation Christmas Child to be delivered to children in need in other parts of the world!
•Richard Ables and Kelley Carraway put together a greenhouse that was received through a grant from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce.

•Lana Fuller’s 2nd grade GATES students traveled to the Natural Science Museum. Parents

• The Pre-K classes of Rachel Dean, Jennifer Funches, Krystal Reynolds and Stephanie Roach
visited the Mississippi Children’s Museum.
• The Kindergarten class of Tiffany Brantley and Crystal White planned, prepared and enjoyed a
friendship feast which included making friendship soup, home-made bread and butter.
• All staff completed Leader in Me implementation training.
Jacob’s Ladder
•The students at Jacob’s Ladder went to Clinton to participate in Special Olympics bowling at Indian Lanes. Our students had a great time bowling. First Place went to Robin Smith, Matthew Grogan, and Michael Halloran. Second Place went to Matt McKay and Leah Clemons. Third Place went to Misty Grantham, Beth Ann Sullender, and Tonya Woods. Fourth Place went to Phillip Scales, Robin Bryant, and Pat Scallions. Thanks to Anita Boyett, Patty Sullender, Sandra Lauderdale, and Ed Herring for coming to help.
•On Thursday we attended Crawford Street’s Thanksgiving Dinner. We enjoyed the delicious food and the wonderful fellowship with friends. Thank you to Crawford Street for hosting us.
•Thanks to everyone that came to our Open House on Sunday. We are so thankful for the tremendous support we continue to receive from individuals and the community.
Porters Chapel Academy
•Eager Eagle of the week in the first grade class of Rebecca Pace was Kendall Smith. Students are classifying fish as part of a unit of study on animals. Parent volunteer providing snacks for the class was Robin Cook. Donating materials and supplies to the class was Tricia Zingery.

Redwood Elementary
•Morning announcement leaders for the week were: Pernell DeFrance, Daniel Smith, Alexis Williams, and Ethan Puckett.
•The first grade classes of Mrs. Hughey, Mrs. Morson, and Ms. Pickering incorporated science with their Halloween celebration. The students had hands-on experience with mystery sensory tables of touch, smell, and taste. The students then used adjectives to describe their observations.
•Mrs. Wilkerson’s Turkey Shoot Carnival Booth volunteers were Kevin Wilkerson, Andrea Hardin, Jordan Williams, Alexis Williams, Brandi Champion, and Riley Wilkerson.
•Redwood PTO and faculty send our thanks to the wonderful Red Cord volunteers from Warren Central High School. They were a tremendous help to us at the Turkey Shoot.
•Fourth grade classes of Ms. Grantham, Ms. Wilkerson, and Mrs. Gray performed the play, Mississippi, My Home on Monday, Nov. 10th at 1:45 p.m. and 6 p.m.
•Dr. Tony Loper, veterinarian, spoke to all second graders on Friday, Nov. 7th about bats. This was the culminating activity on a reading unit on bats.
•Debbie Jones’ Boys Book Club read the book Soldier’s Heart by Gary Paulsen. In order to complete the study of the Civil War, they visited the Old Courthouse Museum where Mr. Gordon Cotton and Mr. Bubba Bolm spoke to the group about the Civil War. They also had fun completing a scavenger hunt concerning people and places during that time period. Seeing the Vicksburg National Military Park Visitor’s Center where they watched a film of important facts about Vicksburg and the Civil War time period, completed the trip. Members of the club included: Seth Watts, Landon Pettway, Pernell Defrance, Gage Ashley, Peyton McBroom, Brandon Emery, Seth Greer, Zachary Hearn, Lane Nevels, Will Thigpen, Jacob Kackley, Ethan Puckett, Zac Boyd, and Peyton Davidson.
•Sixth grade students of Ashley Coomes have engaged in an extensive study of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. After completing a power point presentation of photographs from this period, students completed an image analysis.
Parent volunteers Danielle White and Liz Greer helped give Accelerated Reader tests to Mrs. Coleman’s kindergarten class.
•Mrs. Belinda Watkins’ 3rd grade was presented a $500 grant from Exxon/Mobile at S and S on Halls Ferry Road. The money will be used to enhance math and science. The class was also adopted by Waring Oil Company and will receive a $100 check which will be matched by Exxon/Mobile with $100 to go towards school supplies.
Scholastic Academy
•Thanksgiving Break is Monday, Nov. 24 through 28.
•Reading Fair Boards are due Dec. 11 through 12.
•8th Grade Scholastic would personally like to thank the following benefactors for being so generous to our veterans on Veterans Day: Amanda Gill-donating a sheet cake,
•Shipley’s, Kroger, Whataburger, and Chick-fil-A. The 8th graders had a Breakfast Bash honoring all active military and veterans. They served food and provided entertainment, too. The students were featured in the Vicksburg Post on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, Channel 16, and YouTube.
•Please remember to send in any items from the blue flier that will help assist us to decorate our hallway with the Atlantis Theme.
•Please encourage your child to read since he or she will receive an AR summative test grade at the end of the nine weeks. Your child should obtain his or her point goal with at least 85 percent accuracy.

Sherman Avenue
• Volunteer, Johnny Owen carved a pumpkin for Sally Owen’s Kindergarten class. As part of a math lesson the students estimated the weight and seeds of the pumpkin.
• Faculty/staff members Mrs. Frances Daffron, Mrs. Helen Ashley, Mrs. Cosandra Stewart, and Mrs. Kim Smith were “thrown fish” for the week, in recognition of their behavior that best exemplified the Fish! Philosohies of play, make their day, be there, and choose your attitude.
• Parent volunteer, Kate Reynolds read to the class during Mrs. Owen’s K Fall Party.
•On Monday, select classes presented “It’s A Jungle Out There!” Students sang, acted, danced, and presented jungle themed art work in the hallways for viewing. It was a great night to celebrate the arts.
• Students are being encouraged not to miss any days of school this month! If students are not absent, their name goes into a drawing for a new bicycle! Please do your best to have your child present each day, so he/she will have the opportunity to win.

•The VHS Chapter of the National Honor Society recently inducted 27 new members into this prestigious organization. New members of the Senior Class are: Rishard Dee, Aja Nelson, and Stefan Young. The faculty and staff of VHS, parents, and friends congratulate all of these students for this great accomplishment.
•Singe Feast 2014 entitled “The Truth Fairy” will be presented by the VHS Choral Department on Dec. 12, 7:00 p.m. at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. This program is a Renaissance madrigal dinner featuring a theatrical performance and Christmas concert performed by the students of the choral department. A four-course dinner provided by Palmertree Catering will be served. You may reserve your tickets by calling Tracy Smithey at 601-831-1807 by Dec. 5.

•Baseball tryouts will be Dec. 1 and 2, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the baseball practice field. Bring gloves, athletics pants, weather appropriate tops, tennis shoes or cleats, and a copy of recent medical physical form. Sign up for tryouts in Office A or Office B.

Warrenton Elementary

– The VWSD Community Forum will be at Vicksburg Jr. High School at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1st.
-The Penny Harvest has begun. It will be ongoing until Wednesday, Dec. 17th. All types of money are accepted for collection (change, bills, and checks-made payable to Warren County Children’s Shelter). It is not necessary to convert dollar bills into pennies. The winning teacher’s class receives a pizza party!
-Thanksgiving Break is Nov. 24 through 28. Enjoy your break.

•Powerlifting tryouts will be Monday, Dec. 1, at 4 p.m. in the football field house. If you have any questions, see Coach McMullin in room 602.
