City equipment was missing this morning after the Landscaping Department coming into work Monday discovered the department’s building had been burglarized.

The burglar or burglars stole tillers, trimmers, pole saws, chainsaws and other equipment, from the city shop at 3601 Patricia St., Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

“It’s a great deal of stuff,” Williams said.

A total value on the equipment was not available this morning.

“I think that the police are on top of it and trying to find exactly what happened,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said.

In addition to the stolen equipment, at least four vehicles parked at the city facility were burglarized, Williams said.

City workers’ private vehicles were parked this morning in front of the shop made of dark green corrugated metal, though no one appeared to be at the building.

Attempts to reach the city’s Landscaping Director Jeff Richardson were unsuccessful this morning.

Anyone with information about the burglary is encouraged to call Vicksburg police at 601-636-2511 or Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 601-355-8477, Williams said.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest of a felony suspect. Callers remain anonymous and do not have to testify in court.

County man held for pawning stolen generator

A Warren County man accused of pawning a stolen generator was held without bail this morning.

Kenneth Goulette, 27, 507 Goodrum Road, was arrested at about 5:45 p.m. Monday and charged with receiving stolen property, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Goulette pawned a generator that had been stolen March 25 from a McInnis Electrical Co. work site on North Frontage Road, just west of River Region West, Williams said.

Goulette was held without bail this morning in the Issaquena County Correctional Facility awaiting his initial appearance in Vicksburg Municipal Court.
