Lights went out in schools and businesses along old Highway 27 Tuesday at 7:42 a.m.

“A logging truck hit an electrical pole outside the sub-station this morning,” Entergy’s spokesperson Tammy Rakin said. “The lights were back on by 8:20 this morning.”

Warren Central High School and Beechwood Elementary School were the only two schools to lose power.

“I went to both schools to check on the kids and talk to cafeteria management about meals for the day,” said Vicksburg Warren School District Superintendent Chad Shealy. By the time Shealy returned to his office, he had received a call from both principals saying the power had been restored.

Power was momentarily lost downtown on Cherry Street and both Warren Central Junior High and Vicksburg Junior High lost power briefly while the crew worked to repair damages.

According to Entergy, a total of 760 customers were affected by the outage.

The driver of the truck was not injured and no schools were closed due to the loss of power.

Power was restored by 8:30 a.m.

Some customers throughout Vicksburg experienced some loss of power while crews made repairs.

Rakin said all repairs should be complete by Tuesday evening.
