PORT GIBSON — John Franklin Applin died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at Promise Hospital. He was 75.

Mr. Applin was born in Port Gibson and was employed by the Vicksburg Fire Department, where he reached the rank of captain. He also was the owner and operator of Openwood Boot Shop.

Survivors include his daughter, Lora Scallions of Vicksburg; sister, Kathleen Nazary of Dallas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Wintergreen Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
