Edwards has a new mayor, according to unofficial vote totals from a runoff election Tuesday.

Marcus Wallace defeated incumbent R.L. Perkins with about 61 percent of the vote. Raw totals showed Wallace with 195 votes to Perkins’ 125.

Perkins was first elected in 2005. During the campaign, Wallace survived a challenge made to the city’s election commission about his residency.

Edwards’ population was 1,034 in the 2010 census.
