Tommie L. Williams Sr.

Tommie L. Williams, Sr. passed away Sunday, Dec 14 at River Region Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 88. He was a licensed master plumber and founder of the WE Care Community Services. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the U S Army and was a member of the American Legion Tyner Ford Post #213. He was a member of the Holly Grove M. B. Church.
From 1944 to 1946 he honorably served as a T5 Corporal in the Division Signal Corp as a member of the Buffalo Unit receiving the American Theater of Operations Medal, European-African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal and participated in battles and campaigns in the Rhineland, Central Europe.
In 1972 the idea of We Care was born and from Williams began collecting and distributing clothing for the needy. The Secretary of State officially charted We Care Community Services, Inc. in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Josie Carter Williams; four bothers Joe Willie Green, Alonzo Green, George Williams, Jr. and Sammie Williams; and a sister Mary Frances Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Frances Pearline Miller Williams, of Vicksbur; two sons Tommie L. Williams, Jr. of Bossier City, La., and Robert Williams of Fuquay, N.C.; three daughters Yvonne Williams Friday, Dr. Adena Williams Loston, and Pearla Williams Lemon all of Houston, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others including Melvin Perkins, Jr. of Vicksburg
Funeral services for Tommie L. Williams, Sr. are 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 in the Holly Grove M. B. Church with the Rev. Robert L. Miller, Sr. officiating; interment shall follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery with W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home in charge. There will be a visitation hour from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Chapel Saturday Dec. 20.
