Recollections and resolutions

Published 1:42 am Sunday, December 28, 2014

The end of one year is a time when many people make resolutions about what they are going to do differently in the coming new year. It’s also a time to look back on the past year.
This past year has not always been an easy one for my family and me.
We’ve had to say goodbye to an old job, hello to new a one, begun the end of one phase of life, reached a few milestones and experienced a few losses.
My wife, Catherine, left her job with the Vicksburg Warren School District and joined the staff here at The Post. It’s nice to have her close when I have a rough day and the same is true for her.
Our son, Scott, is experiencing what many adults often think of as the best days of their lives. He’s a senior at Porters Chapel Academy and staring graduation and college in the face. He made a choice on college and is preparing to enter Millsaps in the fall.
My wife and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. That isn’t a whole lot of years, but there’s a whole lot more where those came from. We also celebrated our sixth Christmas together.
We’ve experienced the loss of loved ones and seen a few friendships decline. We end the year in good health and are still madly in love with each other.
The Barry family looks forward to what 2015 has in store for us. We have big plans for the New Year and are looking to make it the best one yet.
We’ve made some resolutions, although I’m not going to share them here.
As Scott leaves for college, we will be empty nesters. I always thought empty nesters would be a lot older than we are now. We are, at least half of us are in our 40s.
The future looks bright and we can’t wait to get started.
