PORT GIBSON — A Claiborne County man accused in the shooting death of a Vicksburg teenager remained in the Claiborne County Detention Center without bond awaiting an initial appearance in Claiborne County Justice Court Tuesday.
Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas said Danny Martez Wilson, 26, 1078 Pattison-Tillman Road, was expected to have his hearing this morning.
Wilson faces a charge of murder in the Saturday morning shooting death of Roviel Mayes, 18, whose body was found in the street in front of a home in the 1100 block of Marginal Street. Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallet said Mayes was declared dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy was ordered.
Port Gibson Police Chief Calvin Jackson said police received a call about 3:20 a.m. Saturday of shots being fired in the 1100 block of Marginal Street and arrived to find Mayes’ body in the street. He said the case was turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
