PORT GIBSON — A $500,000 bond has been set for a Claiborne County man charged with murder in the Saturday shooting death of a Vicksburg teenager in Port Gibson.
Claiborne County Sheriff Marvin Lucas said the bond was set for Danny Martez Wilson, 26, 1078 Pattison-Tillman Road, Tuesday during an initial appearance in Claiborne County Justice Court. He said Wilson remained in the Claiborne County Detention Center.
Wilson is accused of killing Roviel Mayes, 18, whose body was found in the street in front of a home in the 1100 block of Marginal Street early Saturday morning.
Claiborne County Coroner J.W. Mallet said Mayes was declared dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. An autopsy was ordered.
Port Gibson Police Chief Calvin Jackson said police received a call about 3:20 a.m. Saturday of shots being fired in the 1100 block of Marginal Street and arrived to find Mayes’ body in the street. He said the case was turned over to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain said the motive for the shooting remained under investigation, adding investigators were waiting on test results from evidence sent to the state crime lab.
