Richard Henry Gates

Richard Henry Gates of Vicksburg died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at his residence after an extended illness. He was 84.

Richard was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg and was employed by the Vicksburg Evening Post for over 40 years. He attended Bovina Baptist Church and served in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sturgeon Gates, and his mother, Annie Belle Burkett; his wife, Gladys Gates; and a sister, Estelle Barboza.

Survivors include his son, Morgan Richard Gates, and daughter, Diane Gates McEachern, both of Vicksburg; granddaughters, Jessica Gwendelyn Gates, Danielle Gates Nail and Ashleigh Kaye McEachern.

Graveside services are 4 p.m. today, Jan. 15, 2015, at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Bryan Parker officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Mitch Alexander, Mike Alexander, Chris Gillis, Andrew Gillis, Earl Fuson, Robert Pierce.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
