VSO registration open
Online registration for the Vicksburg Soccer Organization’s spring season is open until Feb. 1, and is available at vsosoccer.org.
The fees are $60 for players ages U4-U6, $80 for the U8 league, $85 for U10, and $90 for U12 and above. For more information, visit vsosoccer.org or email info@vsosoccer.org.
Hole-in-one at Clear Creek
Robert Portwood made a hole-in-one on the second hole at Clear Creek Golf Course on Jan. 25. He used an 8-iron from 131 yards. His witnesses were Keith Ehrhardt, Hugh Hasty, Mickle Hayward and Jim Warren.
VWAA baseball registration
Registration for the Vicksburg Warren Athletic Association’s 2015 baseball season will continue until Feb. 28. The league is for boys and girls ages 5-15, and the registration fee is $75 — or $60 before Feb. 15.
Tryouts will be held at Halls Ferry Park on March 3 and 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. Players must bring their own gloves.

Vicksburg Premier Basketball registration
Registration is open until Feb. 16 for the Vicksburg Premier Youth Basketball League. The league is for boys and girls ages 6-14. It will feature four age groups, have an eight-week game schedule including a league tournament, and every child is guaranteed to play 20 minutes in every game.
Players must not have turned 15 before Jan. 1, 2015. Registration forms are available at Hobie’s Sports and Outdoors. The registration fee is $50 for the 8-, 10- and 12-and-under leagues, and $60 for the 14-and-under league.

Hinds women’s soccer tryouts
Tryouts for Hinds Community College’s women’s soccer team are scheduled for Feb. 19 on the Raymond campus. There will be a campus tour beginning in Mayo Field House from 2 to 3:30 p.m., followed by the tryout from 4 to 6 p.m. at Tom Shepherd Field.
All participants must bring a valid current physical form, cleats, shin guards and water. Players under the age of 18 must bring a legal guardian.

Hinds football tryouts
Hinds Community College’s football program will hold tryouts for any unsigned high school seniors Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. in Mayo Field House on the Raymond campus. The tryout is only open to graduating seniors in the class of 2015. All participants must bring a copy of their latest physical, cleats, athletic shoes and workout clothes.

Run Thru History registration
Registration is now open for the 36th annual Run Thru History, a 10K run, 5K race walk and 1-mile fun run through the Vicksburg National Military Park. The race is scheduled for March 7 at 8:30 a.m.
The entry fees are $25 for the run and walk or $12 for the children’s fun run before March 2, and then $30 for the run and walk after that date. The entry fee includes a race T-shirt, refreshments and the race’s famous after party.

YMCA beginner swim lessons
The Vicksburg YMCA will offer beginner swim lessons for children ages 5-12 beginning on Feb. 9. The sessions run from 4 to 4:45 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, and continue until Feb. 19. The cost is $20.

YMCA Biddy Ball registration
Registration is now open for the YMCA’s Biddy Basketball league, a six-week introductory program designed to introduce children ages 5-7 to the fundamentals of basketball. Classes run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. Registration is open until Feb. 7, and the program begins Feb. 17. The cost is $40 for YMCA members and $70 for non-members.
