NEWELLTON, La. — Funeral services for Hazel Green DeWitt will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Newellton, La. The Revs. Larry Foster and John Wilkins and Dr. Scott Byrd will officiate. Interment will follow at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.
Mrs. DeWitt died at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe after a short illness. She was 93.
She was born on July 19, 1921, in Slate Springs, Miss. She was a lifelong resident of Newellton in Tensas Parish and had retired to Lake Bruin. She was a graduate of Newellton High School, a member of First Baptist Church in Newellton and a member of the Lake Bruin Country Club Ladies Golf Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestine Vance Green and William Lawrence Green; her husband, Sturgis Sprague DeWitt; a sister, Rogenia Green Trotter; a brother, William Lawrence Green; and a sister-in-law, Margaret DeWitt Witte.
She is survived by a daughter, Edith DeWitt Sandoz, and her husband, Robert James Sandoz, both of Lake Bruin; two grandchildren, James Clifton Wilkerson II of Austin, Texas, and Edith Margaret Wilkerson of Atlanta; a great-granddaughter, Kayle; two step-grandchildren, Stuart Sandoz and Stacy Sandoz Justilian; step great-grandson, Chase Justilian; a twin sister, Mabel Green Walker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be nephews Byron Bailey, Dr. Sidney Bailey, John O. Charrier, William L. Green III, DeWitt Lee Sumners, A. Cecil Sumners, L. Edwards Walker, and M. Roger Walker.
Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah is in charge of arrangements.
