Amenities at hotels aren’t everything, but a Vicksburg casino hotel’s extras landed it among the best places to lodge in Mississippi, according to U.S. News and World Report.

Ameristar Casino and Hotel was rated the sixth-best of 46 hotels in Mississippi in the publication’s annual evaluation of hotels with multiple amenities and generally favorable ratings.

“We’re honored to be recognized and to be the only hotel in Vicksburg with this distinction,” general manager Gerad Hardy said, adding the Washington street casino hotel rated highly among hotels in the central part of the state.

This year’s Best Hotels survey looked at 2,558 hotels in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Factored into the rankings are a hotel’s industry accolades with expert and guest reviews and hotel class ratings. U.S. News scored luxury hotels, identifying the top 10 percent in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean with Gold badges and the top 30 percent within specific markets with Silver badges.

Ameristar was lauded by the publication for complimentary Wi-Fi, seasonally available hot tubs in some rooms and the main casino’s dining options, among other points. Rated tops among luxury hotels in the state was the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood.

“We’re taking the guesswork out of finding a great hotel,” said Erin Shields, travel editor for U.S. News. “The Best Hotels of 2015 represent the top properties recognized by experts and travelers alike for their exemplary service, ample amenities and comfortable accommodations.”

Ameristar’s Vicksburg property wasn’t alone with a top honor in the rankings. The Pinnacle Entertainment brand’s hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was rated No. 1 in the entire Hawkeye State. Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City, Mo., was rated ninth among luxury hotels in that city.

“It speaks to the quality of our hotels in the Pinnacle brand,” Hardy said.
