PORT GIBSON — Joseph Jones, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at the G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery V.A. Medical Center in Jackson. He was 89.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Jones and Savannah Sorrells Barnes; two sisters, Bessie Buck and Edna Earl Permelia; and a brother, Fred Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Jones of Port Gibson; a son, Joseph Jones Jr. of Louisville, Texas; three daughters, Bobbie Brandon, Shirley Hall and Rose Mary Jones-King, all of Port Gibson; a brother, T. J. Walters of Arizona; a sister, Gladys Miller of Battle Creek, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends including a special sister-in-law;

Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 7, 2015, at Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson with Rev. Ray Coleman officiating, assisted by Rev. Leon Nelson, pastor of the church. Burial will be at Mercy Seat Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral homes and Saturday at the church from noon until the service time.
