Hinds CC announces math contest winners

RAYMOND – The Hinds Community College Raymond Campus Mathematics Department hosted the district seventh and eighth grade mathematics competition, sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics, on March 3.

Each year the middle schools and junior high schools in the Hinds district are invited to send their top two seventh grade mathematics students and their top two eighth grade mathematics students to this competition. These participants take a written, standardized test.

The first and second place winners in each grade qualify for the state competition on March 21 at Madison Middle School in Madison County school district.

Team trophies of gold, bronze and silver are also awarded to the teams that amass the most total points on the exams.

Winners include:

Individual awards: Seventh grade: First place, Kevin Zhang, Clinton Junior High; second place, Tyler Mabry, Clinton Junior High; third place, Emnet Alemayehu, Carver Middle School, Hinds County; fourth place, Delvin Kelly, Puckett, Rankin County.

Eighth grade: First place, Clark Hensley, Clinton Junior High; second place, Autumn Cochran, Warren Central Junior High, Vicksburg; third place, R.J. Willis, Scholastic Academic, Vicksburg; fourth place, Will Duke, Clinton Junior High.

Team awards: Seventh grade: Gold, Clinton Junior High; Silver, Carver Middle School; Bronze, Puckett
