Lorraine Van Delden Boyd

Lorraine Van Delden Boyd, born to Addie and Andrew Van Delden on July 6, 1923, in Vicksburg, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at her home in Homewood, Ala., at the age of 91.

She graduated from St. Francis Xavier Academy in 1942. Lorraine married her sweetheart, Paul W. Boyd Sr. on Oct. 2, 1943. They moved the family, including four children, to Birmingham, Ala., in 1964.

Lorraine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Lorraine loved to be out in her yard. Her garden was always abloom with beautiful flowers. She had a kind heart and never met a stranger.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul W. Boyd Sr. (Big Paul) who died in 2003 after 59 years of marriage and a son, Paul W. Boyd Jr. (Paul Jr.) who passed in 1976 after a well-fought battle with cancer. She was also preceded by her sister, Bobby Van Delden Kelly (Lewis) and her brother, Charles Gore Sr. (Audrey) both from Vicksburg.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Nalda Davidson (Mike), Gary Boyd (Pat), Gina Lovett (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Barbara Boyd, a niece, Andrea Kelly Hughes (Willie); grandchildren, Lesley Boyd Hopkins, Chris Davidson (LeAnn), Kevin Davidson (Michele), Brian Davidson, Beth Boyd Nicholas (Jim), Drew Boyd, Alex Boyd, Katie Boyd, Jessica Lovett Parks (Eric), Melissa Lovett Scott (Ryan), Josh Lovett, Sara Lovett; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Hopkins, Cierra Hopkins, Josie Hopkins, Cameron Davidson, Will Gooslin, Jack Davidson, James Nicholas, Elliott Nichols and Hank Parks.

Visitation was held at 9 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015 at Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood, Ala., with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
