Laverne “Von” W. Williams died Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.  She was 57.

A lifelong Vicskburg resident, Mrs. Williams attended Warren Central High School and Hinds Community College. She was a financial counselor at River Region Medical Center and Vicksburg Clinic and a member of Travis Chapel AME Church where she was a trustee, director of the children’s choir, soloist, usher secretary, steward and a member of the Missionary Society.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearline Johnson; maternal grandparents, Arthur and Francis Williams; paternal grandparents, Ulysses S. Johnson, Sr. and Roberta Poa Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas Williams of Vicksburg; father and stepmother, Ulysses S. Johnson Jr. and Carolyn Johnson, of Vicksburg; four children, Yakima “Kim” Williams, Joseph “Sam” Watson, Derrick Watson and Tabitha Watson, all of Vicksburg; two stepdaughters, Renita Lane and Tammy Eakins, both of Meridian; 14 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Bethel AME Church, 805 Monroe Street, with the Rev. Beverly Baskin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation is 1-7 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at the funeral home.
