LSU and Ole Miss had to play deep into the night Saturday to determine a winner.

LSU made certain that wouldn’t be necessary on Sunday.

Alex Bregman went 3-for-6 with a home run, double, three runs scored and two RBIs, and the Tigers banged out 19 hits to rout Ole Miss 18-6 in the finale of a three-game series in Baton Rouge.

LSU’s offensive explosion came less than 24 hours after it lost 5-3 in 14 innings Saturday night. LSU (18-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) took two out of three in the series.

LSU has won five straight SEC regular-season series over Ole Miss and 13 of the last 17. Ole Miss’ last series victory in Baton Rouge came in 1982.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. “We had a very tough loss last night, but we responded to that setback in a very positive way. Our hitters attacked the ball and had some great at-bats.”

The Tigers wasted no time jumping on Ole Miss starter Sam Smith. They shelled him for five runs in a third of an inning in the bottom of the first.

The Tigers then scored in every inning from the third through the seventh to take an 18-3 lead. Mark Laird and Grayson Byrd each had RBI doubles during a six-run seventh inning rally that gave LSU its biggest lead.

Ole Miss (10-9, 1-2) got three runs in the top of the ninth on Sikes Orvis’ home run, but was never really in the game.

Bregman was one of six LSU players with multiple hits in the game. The Tigers had six extra base hits, including home runs by Bregman, Conner Hale and Jared Foster.

Hale went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Andrew Stevenson was 2-for-3 and scored four times.

Will Golsan went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Ole Miss, while Tate Blackman also had two hits.

Five of the six pitchers used by Ole Miss gave up at least two runs each, and all of them gave up at least one run. The Rebels’ pitchers also recorded just one strikeout.
