PCA hosts Bubba Mims golf tournament

Porters Chapel Academy will host the 11th annual Bubba Mims Memorial Golf Classic April 29 at Vicksburg Country Club. The event is a four-man scramble and will begin with lunch at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

The entry fee is $90 per player and includes cart, beverages and lunch. A hole-in-one prize of a new vehicle from George Carr will be available, along with prizes for cloest to the hole and longest drive.

Vicksburg High basketball tryouts

Tryouts for Vicksburg High’s boys basketball team will be held in the school’s gym April 8-10, beginning at 4 p.m. each day. All players should bring their third nine weeks’ grades, a completed physical form, and appropriate workout clothes.

Adult softball registration open

Registration for the Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department’s adult softball league is open until April 13. There are men’s and women’s leagues avaialble.

The registration fee is $175 per team, plus $10 for each Warren County resident who does not live inside the city limits, and $20 for residents of Claiborne, Sharkey and Issaquena counties. Registration packets can be picked up at the Parks and Rec office at 100 Army Navy Drive.

There will be a mandatory coaches meeting April 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.

Youth baseball umps, scorekeepers needed

The Vicksburg Parks and Recreation Department is in need of umpires and scorekeepers for the 2015 youth baseball season. For more information, call Joseph Graves at 601-634-4514.

YMCA Tee Ball registration

Registration for the Vicksburg YMCA’s Tee Ball program is now under way. Tee Ball is for boys and girls ages 4-6 and is intended as a beginners’ baseball league. The six-week program will be held at the Purks YMCA Field.

Registration will continue until April 4 and the season begins April 14. Space is limited. For more information, call the Purks YMCA at 601-638-1071.

Clear Creek Ladies weekly golf report

On Wednesday the Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association played an individual match. Carol Roberson took top honors, followed by Connie Kegerreis in second place and Joyce Johnson in third. Roberson also had the lowest number of putts. Mary Harmon made the only chip-in of the day.

Lifeguard class offered at YMCA

The Vicksburg YMCA will hold an American Red Cross lifeguard training class beginning April 6. The two-week course will be held from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be taught by veteran American Red Cross instructors Susan and Bob Athow and Sylvia Gurtowski.

Interested candidates must complete a 300-yard swim and a strength and fitness challenge prior to class in order to qualify. Cost of the class is $100 for YMCA members and $115 for nonmembers.

Hinds CC soccer recruiting camp

The Hinds Community College women’s soccer program will host its first Soccer ID recruiting camp on May 30.

The camp is for rishing female high school seniors and will be held at Tom Shepherd Field on the Raymond campus beginning at 10 a.m. There will be two training sessions as well as a campus tour, and lunch will be provided.

Hinds CC soccer camp set for June

The Hinds Community College men’s and women’s soccer programs will host their annual youth soccer camp June 1-5 on the Raymond campus. The camp is for boys and girls ages 7-14. It begins each morning at 8 a.m. and continues until 4:30 p.m.

The camp will feature instruction from current and former Hinds coaches and players, and emphasizes technique training and tactics. The cost of the camp is $150 if registered before May 15, and $175 after that date.

Ole Miss Ladies Football Forum

The Ole Miss Ladies Football Forum, a one-day instructional camp designed to teach women the basics of college football, will be held May 30 in Oxford.

The camp runs from 7 to 9:30 a.m., and includes tours of the Ole Miss football facilities, instruction from coaches and players, and lunch. The cost of the forum is $150 and the registration deadline is May 1. There is no walk-up registration.

Wetlands Junior Golf Classic

The Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour’s Wetlands Junior Golf Classic is scheduled for April 25 and 26 at The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette, La. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is open to golfers ages 11-18.
