Clinton flusters WC again

Once again, Clinton found a new and creative way to ruin Warren Central’s day.
Kaylie Peterson delivered a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Lady Arrows beat Warren Central 2-1 to sew up the Division 4-6A championship.
It’s Clinton’s 12th consecutive win over the Lady Vikes since 2010 and its seventh consecutive division title.
Warren Central (9-4, 1-2 Division 4-6A) has clinched a playoff berth — it’s in a three-team division and the top three teams advance to the postseason — but still needs to beat hapless Greenville to secure the No. 2 seed.
The Lady Vikes needed to beat Clinton by at least five runs on Wednesday to have a shot at the division title, although any victory over their nemesis would have been welcome.
WC pitcher Darby Gain allowed only one run, one hit and one walk through the first six innings, then gave up a leadoff single to Darby Turman to start the seventh.
Turman was bunted to second base, then scored the winning run when Peterson doubled to center field.
It was a bitter ending for the Lady Vikes, who only had two hits but plenty of chances. They worked seven walks against Clinton pitcher Kaeleigh Crutchfield, but left eight runners on base.
Gain and Katie Channell had WC’s only hits. Gain drove in a run with a double in the third inning.
Warren Central will host Ridgeland tonight at 6:30 for senior night.
