Rebels fall to Mizzou; USM blanks Marshall

Ole Miss’ rollercoaster ride through the Southeastern Conference continues.

After scoring 52 runs in six games over the past week and change, the Rebels plated just two on Friday and lost the opener of their weekend series at Missouri 4-2.

Brett Bond went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored for Missouri (29-19, 13-9 SEC).

Missouri starter Reggie McClain (6-5) and two relievers held the Rebels (24-23-10-12) to seven hits and a pair of runs, both of which came in the fifth inning. Ole Miss hitters struck out 11 times.

Ole Miss starter Christian Trent pitched eight innings, allowing four runs on nine hits. He didn’t walk a batter and sruck out six.

Southern Miss 6, Marshall 0

Cody Carroll threw a complete-game shutout, Tim Lynch and Matt Durst each hit a two-run home run, and Southern Miss (26-16-1, 11-10 Conference USA) opened its weekend by beating Marshall (16-28, 8-14).

Lynch went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored for Southern Miss.
