Warren County and state officials were looking Monday for clues in a shooting Saturday along Interstate 20.

A man and a woman were found shot in a car in the westbound lane of I-20 about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents and Warren County investigators were scouring the car again Monday and re-interviewing the shooting victims, Pace said.

“They’re going over the car again to determine if there is any evidence that might help us,” Pace said.

Pace declined to release the names of the victims, citing the ongoing investigation.

The man and woman were taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds after they were found in the car parked on the side of highway near the Hinds County line.

A cell phone call initially reporting the shooting was directed to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol. Calls from cellphones to 911 near the county line can often be sent to the incorrect agency because the 911 system recognized the closest cellphone tower when forwarding the call.

A Hinds County deputy found the couple in the car about half-mile inside the Warren County line. The deputy then notified Warren County deputies.

Authorities are still trying to determine if the shooting occurred in Hinds or Warren County.
